W. de Mérode - 1931
Willem de Mérode, or W.E. Keuning (1887-1939), as his real name was, published a volume of one hundred quatrains in 1931.
His translation was based, for the larger part, on the German version of M. Schenck (Halle, ca. 1897). The preceeding sonnet in this volume shows how De Mérode's interpretation was inspired by his christian beliefs.
