Fourth version, 1879
As Quaritch became worried because of the growing number of unauthorized American editions, he urged FitzGerald for a new edition. FitzGerald agreed but only when an earlier translation, e.g. 'Salámán and Absál' (1856) was included. After his death, a so called fifth edition was published in 1889, based on the fourth edition and corrections and notes in FitzGerald's own copy of this fourth edition.
