Nearly two years after John Heath-Stubbs, his fellow translator, Peter Avery died October 6 2008, at the age of 85. Avery is considered as one of world’s foremost experts on the history and literature or Iran. For years Avery taught Persian language and literature but he also translated classic Iranian masterpieces as Hafez’ Book of Poems, Attar’s Conference of the Birds, and Omar Khayyám’s Quatrains.
This quatrains were translated in collaboration with John Heath-Stubbs, first published in 1979 and reprinted a number of times.
