It is hard to establish the total number of editions of the Rubáiyát. In 1929 Ambrose George Potter published a bibliography (reissued in 1994) of the editions that were published until that date. It numbers some 1.300 titles in fourty languages. Today the total has probably exceeded the number 2.000. A list of Dutch editions and translations was published in 'Boekenwereld', March 1997.
The bibliography of scholarly and popular literature on Khayyám and the Rubáiyát is growing accordingly. In 1971 Ali Dashti estimated a total of more than 2.000. A selection here is made of the more important titles.
'Omar Khayyam' has never stopped to fuel the phantasy and imagination of artists and novelists. Therefore a list of novels, parodies and of musical compositions, though far from complete, is presented as well. |
